The A4 Avant comes with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, as well as front-wheel-drive or quattro all-wheel-drive. The entry-level 35 TDI diesel is a good allrounder. It’s not sluggish (0-60mph in 8.5 seconds) and it has a fuel economy of 56.5mpg. The 40 TDI quattro offers better performance, but the RS4 Avant may be worth checking out if you have the budget and that’s what you’re after. 

All A4 Avants get Audi’s brilliant Virtual Cockpit system as standard, which replaces the dials in the driver’s binnacle with a 12.3-inch digital display - ideal for viewing your navigation. On top of this, you get Audi’s awesome MMI infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, sat-nav, and voice control. 

Families will love the active safety features and parking assistance systems, which include front and rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, and a 360 degree camera available on the Vorsprung trim.

The A4 Avant also has a decent amount of storage space, with 495 litres of boot space on offer and 40:20:40 split folding rear seats for maximum flexibility.
