Small SUV with a big following. Luxurious offering with great standard tech.
The Audi e-Tron Estate was Audi’s first foray into the world of electric cars. Practical proportions make the e-Tron a great family car, but executives should also pay mind to its strong company car credentials. More
The e-tron is no longer the only electric car in Audi’s arsenal. It’s joined by the coupe-SUV e-tron Sportback, the smaller Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, and the high performance e-tron GT and e-tron GT RS.
The Audi e-tron is available in two different battery capacities and three power output levels. Each comes with quattro all-wheel-drive and can fast charge in 50 minutes using a publicly available fast charger. The “50” uses a 64kWh battery good for a range of 197 miles, while the “55” uses a 86kWh battery with up to 252 miles of range. The “e-Tron S” has the same size battery as the latter, with added performance improvements.
Electric drivetrains mean both variants are quick off the line, with 0-62mph times of 6.8, 5.7 and 4.5 seconds respectively, while zero tailpipe emissions mean you’ll pay minimal BiK tax.
It may be electric ‘under the hood’, but the e-tron looks a lot like Audi’s more conventional offerings - if that’s what you like. It bears the usual ‘unmistakably Audi’ hexagonal singleframe grille, while an expansive light strip across the rear of the car marks it out as something of a step forward for the brand.
All e-trons are brimming with tech, from the Virtual Cockpit and MMI infotainment displays to the 360-degree parking parking sensor, rear-view camera, and lane departure warning which come as standard.
A five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and 660 litres of boot space (1725 with rear seats folded) make this a truly family friendly car.
The E-tron faces some tough competition in the form of other large and luxurious electric SUVs such as the BMW iX, BMW iX3, Jaguar I-Pace, and Mercedes EQC. The Tesla Model X is more expensive, but might be the best option if you’re looking for a seven-seat electric SUV.
