Leasing a BMW 1 Series

Background to the BMW 1 Series

Now in its third generation, the BMW 1 Series has won praise for combining sleek design and luxury amenities in a compact package. The smallest in the BMW family, the 5-door 1 Series still lives up to the iconic brand’s reputation for performance, style and efficiency. The big change in the latest model is switching the rear wheel drive to front-wheel which frees up plenty of space to create a big 380-litre boot.

BMW 1 Series Engines and Performance

Under the bonnet, there’s the choice of petrol and diesel fuel types for the three-cylinder engine, with a manual or automatic gearbox. Front wheel drive is standard but the xDrive models offer all-wheel drive. The entry-level SE model will take you from 0-62 mph in just 8.5 seconds but if you’re looking for some extra grunt, the top-of-the-range M model will get you there in 4.8 seconds. CO2 emissions are 140-135 g/km while fuel consumption is 45.6-47.9 mpg.

BMW 1 Series Trim Levels

The entry-level SE model comes with 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, as well as a stylish front kidney grille and LED lights. The Sport model has upgraded light alloy wheels and sports seats in the front while the M Sport has an aerodynamic exterior and leather upholstery. The M model is the top of the range choice.

BMW 1 Series Safety and Infotainment Features

The dashboard’s 7-inch infotainment screen can be controlled by touch or gesture, and includes a built-in sat nav and real-time traffic updates. Some systems can even be controlled using BMW’s voice-activated personal assistant which can turn on the car heating if you’re cold. Extra safety feature options are available to purchase including active cruise control with “stop and go” function, high beam assistant and a parking assistant. Tech pack 1 includes features like high-beam assistant, head-up display and enhanced Bluetooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is it to lease a BMW 1 Series?

The price you pay to lease a BMW 1 Series depends on a range of factors. When you lease a car, you have to pay an upfront initial payment, followed by monthly payments for the period of your contract. The trim, estimated mileage and choice of engine will all impact how much your payments are.

Is it better to buy or lease a BMW 1 Series?

BMW is a prestigious brand so new BMWs come at a premium price. The big advantage of leasing over buying, is you don’t have to splash a lot of cash on a new set of wheels. You have all the convenience of a car, without the hassle of owning it. What’s more, you can claim back VAT on your motoring expenses and, if it’s a business lease, you can claim back 50% of the VAT you pay.
