The iX3 has done away with the oddball looks of the i3, which was designed entirely around an electric drivetrain. In fact, it’s based on the near-identical conventionally-fueled X3 sports utility vehicle. Of course, if you’re looking for a fantastic electric family car that is more ‘sport’ than ‘utility vehicle’, you could always check out the i4 Gran Coupe.
Buyers can choose from two trim options, M Sport and M Sport Pro. Both are good for 285 miles of range by WLTP standards thanks to their 80kW batteries. The iX3 also supports 150kW DC fast charging, which will get you from 10-80% charge in as little as 32 minutes.
If parking an SUV with kids in the back sounds like your worst nightmare, the M Sport Pro also gets you the upgraded Parking Assistant Plus, which uses extra cameras and sensors to make parking and pulling out of junctions or awkward exits a lot easier. With larger 20-inch alloy wheels and a sporty ‘Shadowline’ high-gloss exterior styling, it doesn’t look like your standard family car, either.
Inside, the class-leading BMW iDrive entertainment system with satellite navigation will have no trouble keeping you entertained and on-track.
40/20/40 split-folding and reclinable rear seats and a 510-litre boot (1560 litres with seats fully folded) makes the iX3 a very versatile vehicle, ideal for people-carrying and load-lugging.
