Our appetites for SUVs are keener than ever - which is why Jaguar, a car maker once renowned for its sports cars and premium executive saloons, has finally entered the ring. Since its 2016 launch, the F-Pace has been joined by the smaller E-Pace and the cutting-edge all-electric I-Pace.

All F-Paces (with the exception of the P250 petrol engine) feature mild-hybrid technology for improved mpg figures. The D165 is the most frugal of the oil-powered versions, with a claimed economy of 45.4mpg. 

If you opt for the hybrid P400e and you’re happy keeping the battery topped-up, you could achieve as much as 128mpg, according to Jaguar. With 33 miles of electric range and just 49g/km CO2 emissions, that also reduces your BiK tax band - great news for company car drivers.

The cabin feels generously proportioned, and wide-opening doors make fitting an ISOFIX child seat in the rear a doddle. A 5 star Euro NCAP rating will also give you peace of mind. 

The 650 litre boot expands to 1,740 litres when the rear seats are folded down, and  40/20/40 rear folding seats mean you can slide longer items down the middle and still seat four. 

There’s also plenty of top tech, including Jaguar’s new 11.4-inch Pivo Pro infotainment system and digital driver’s cluster for easy navigation and quality entertainment.

Of course, the F-Pace isn’t the only midsize luxury SUV trying to tempt you. It faces particularly stiff competition from the German giants, in the form of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC Estate and Porsche Macan.
