XE Saloon buyers get a choice of two engines: a petrol and a diesel mild-hybrid. The D200 rear-wheel-drive diesel mild-hybrid offers the best fuel economy, returning 57.7mpg on the WLTP combined cycle, and a 0-60mph time of 6.9 seconds. The P300 all-wheel-drive shaves over a second off that time, but fuel economy is much lower, at 30.8mpg. 

The XE Saloon has a particularly alluring ride quality, levelling out road surfaces in a manner befitting a more expensive luxury car. 

And it doesn’t stop there. Inside, the XE Saloon combines modern styling with a plush, high-tech interior. The entry-level ‘S’ trim gets leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, dual-zone climate control, 12-way electrically-adjustable front seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system - and there’s still plenty of room to up-spec.

If you’re looking for a competent family car, the XE Saloon has a lot to offer. It comfortably seats 5, with 410 litres of boot space. If you need more flexibility, you can also option 40/20/40 folding rear seats. 

The Jaguar XE Saloon may be a heavy-hitter, but its rivals aren’t the type to take it lying down. If you hadn’t guessed already, it’s up against the German trio: the Audi A4 Saloon, Mercedes C-Class Saloon and BMW 3 Series Saloon.
