Leasing a Volkswagen Up

Background to the Volkswagen Up

In 2011, VW unveiled their latest creation - the Volkswagen Up hatchback. A year later, the Up won the World Car of the Year award, establishing itself as among the most popular city cars on the market. Today, it continues to be one of the best sellers in the mini car segment.

Volkswagen Up Engines and Performance

The Up comes with a 1-speed automatic transmission or a 5- or 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine range starts with a 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 59bhp. It is super economical with 51-55 mpg fuel efficiency. The 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol engine gives the UP a little more kick, while the top range GTI model has 113bhp. Described as a powerhouse in a lightweight package, the Up GTI shows that even little guys can stand out in a crowd.

Volkswagen Up Trim Levels

The Up Beats is the starter trim. The Beats 5dr model has one big stand-out feature -  a 6-speaker sound system with 8-channel digital amplifier and 300 Watt output. The White Edition and Black Edition are the next trims. The White Edition 5dr model offers 16-inch alloy wheels and start-stop battery regeneration technology. The only differences with the Black Edition 5dr version are the 'La Boca' Black alloy wheels and 'Black Cube' dashboard. A lowered sports suspension gives the R Line 5dr model a more dynamic appearance, while the top-ranging GTI trims include unique badging and a 5-inch colour screen with Bluetooth connection.

Volkswagen Up Safety and Infotainment Features

The UP is fully equipped with anti-lock brakes, a seat belt reminder buzzer and six airbags. The electronic stability control uses high-tech computer technology to maintain full tyre traction at all times. You can dock your smartphone onto the UP's infotainment system then pull up Google Maps, your favourite playlist and podcasts, or contacts to make a hands-free call. A USB  connector ensures your phone never loses any battery.

Volkswagen Up Servicing and Warranty

Volkswagen Up leasing deals include VW's three year or 60,000-mile manufacturer's warranty. Volkswagen advises servicing the UP yearly, or after every 12,000 miles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy or lease a Volkswagen Up?

Even starter cars like the VW Up are expensive to buy outright. With leasing, you put down an initial payment, then pay off the depreciation costs via manageable, fixed monthly payments. The car then goes back at the end of the term. Because you never actually own the vehicle, leasing can be more cost-effective than other types of car finance.

How much does it cost to lease a Volkswagen Up?

Several factors go into calculating the monthly cost of a contract hire for a new car. They include lease length, engine specs, size of initial payment, and annual mileage. Usage is another thing to consider. Road tax is also included.
