The EQE is based on the same platform as Mercedes’ flagship electric vehicle, the larger EQS. It’s considered the electric alternative to the regular E-Class.

The EQE is a joy to drive, offering a choice of Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual modes and adaptive suspension to suit the mood. It’s a smooth ride, and very compliant over sharp bumps and potholes. Plenty of legroom allows front and rear passengers to stretch out on longer journeys, while a panoramic glass sunroof adds to the sense of space. 

Other manufacturers may like to harp on about their minimalist interiors, but the EQE’s cabin is truly enviable. It’s well made, using high-quality materials and comfortable seats. A digital driver's display behind the steering wheel and large central touchscreen is enough to make the car feel modern without feeling sparse and unwelcoming, while open-pore wood on the dashboard adds to the calming ambience. 

When it comes to rivals, the EQE doesn’t have it easy. The EQE does manage to undercut the Tesla Model S on price, but the latter offers faster charging and time-proven technology. The BMW i4 is another close rival, which may appeal to fans of more traditional-looking cars.
