Leasing a Mini Convertible

Background to the Mini Convertible

Now part of the BMW family, the Mini convertible launched in 2004 and is based on the hugely successful and popular three-door Mini hatchback. It was one of the first small cars offered as a convertible and was a reimagination of its predecessor, the Mini Cabriolet from 1993. Since its introduction, the Mini Convertible has become one of the bestselling convertible models in the UK with the Mini Cooper Hatchback edition being the most popular.

Mini Convertible Engines and Performance

Available as a petrol-only option, there are two engine sizes to choose from. The 1.5-litre Cooper model will give you a respectable 136bhp and go from 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. The 2.0-litre Cooper S offers 192bhp and a 0-62mph time of 7.2 seconds, while the top of the range 2.0-litreJohn Cooper Works edition packs a punch at 231bhp and will go from 0-62mph in just 6.6 seconds. CO2 emissions are 127-130g/km, 154-157g/km and 161-162g/km respectively. If you’re looking to cover lots of miles, the Mini Convertible 1.5-litre Cooper will give you the most out of the three engine sizes at around 42mpg, the Cooper S is up next at 37mpg and you’ll get an extra mile from the John Cooper Works model at about 38mpg.

Mini Convertible Trim Levels

Choose from three trim levels - the Classic, Sport and the Exclusive. But whichever you choose, the Mini Convertible roof takes just 18 seconds to retract so you can enjoy every ray of sunshine. The Cooper Classic comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, while the Cooper S comes with 16-inch alloys. Both the Sport and Exclusive trim levels come with 17-inch alloys with distinctive spoke design. Only the top-end Exclusive comes with leather seats as standard although you can add this to the Sport spec too. Each trim comes with a host of optional extras.

Mini Convertible Safety and Infotainment Features

The Mini Convertible comes with a decent range of tech to make journeys a breeze. LED front and rear lights mean long-lasting bulbs that are brighter for night-time driving. Rear parking sensors are also on hand to prevent bumps in tricky parking spots. There are front and side airbags along with intelligent emergency calling and an active roll-over protection system. Each trim comes with a 6.5-inch infotainment display screen as standard as well as multi-function controls on the steering wheel to ensure you’ve got everything you need at your fingertips.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is it to lease a Mini Cooper convertible?

Leasing costs can vary as they depend on depreciation. Typically, the average car will lose around 40% of its initial value over the first three years, so you can expect to pay this amount over a 36-month lease. Factors that affect depreciation include the make and model, upfront payment, monthly payment and the length of your car leasing contract.

Should I buy or lease a Mini Cooper convertible?

Car leasing has a number of benefits. Not only will you be able to drive away in a brand new Mini convertible but your contract hire plan includes road tax too, so that’s one less thing to think about. Plus, at the end of your agreement, you simply hand the car back and you are free to choose another great car leasing deal from LeaseFetcher. Beware of excess mileage charges and your trading style as a firm may affect whether you can access a business lease - you will need a VAT registration company number.

How does car leasing a Mini convertible work?

Car leasing is pretty straightforward. You simply make an initial payment and then fixed monthly payments over an agreed length of time. At the end of your contract hire plan, you hand the car back to the leasing broker. Car leasing is becoming a popular way for people to drive brand new cars.
